About Chapeltown Cohousing
Chapeltown Cohousing (ChaCo) is a friendly, diverse and welcoming community in the heart of Chapeltown, Leeds. We're a resident-led co-housing cooperative, bringing together people of different ages, cultures and experiences who want to live more sustainably and enjoy being part of a supportive neighbourhood.
Our community combines the privacy and independence of having your own home with the benefits of shared spaces, facilities and friendships.
What makes living here special?
- A supportive community — neighbours who know each other, look out for one another and enjoy spending time together.
- Fantastic shared facilities — including a common house with a communal kitchen and dining area, laundry, guest rooms and spaces for social activities.
- Beautiful shared gardens — green spaces for growing food, relaxing, socialising and enjoying the outdoors.
- Sustainable living — energy-efficient homes and opportunities to share resources, reduce waste and live more environmentally friendly lives.
- A real say in your community — residents are members of the cooperative and help make decisions about how the community is run.
Is cohousing for you?
We're looking for someone who is excited about being part of a community, enjoys getting to know their neighbours and is willing to contribute to community life.
Everyone has their own private home, but residents also share responsibility for looking after our communal spaces and helping make ChaCo a great place to live.
As a ChaCo member you'll be expected to:
- become a member of the housing co-operative
- participate in monthly general meetings
- help out with one of our task groups to help with keeping ChaCo functioning smoothly. These teams typically meet monthly and deal with: internal community, external community, environment, maintenance, legal/financial
- help out with cooking/preparing/cleaning up after communal meals roughly once a month
